I simply love south Indian food: Simran Kaur Mundi
Simran Kaur Mundi, winner of Femina Miss India Universe 2008, who was present at the launch of Flying Cats, a airhostess training academy on Friday, spoke to Expresso about Indian couture, her future plans and more.
How has Miss India changed you?I am definitely not the same as I was before Miss India. It has groomed me a lot to face the international fashion scene. As a woman representing India in the international level, how do you think Indian women are doing globally?
I have heard many say that Indians are not doing well in the international level, be it anything. Indian women especially have gone places and believe me, I was amazed at the response people give when they see Indian women on foreign ramps and contests. I am proud to be representing India.
How fashionable you think women in Chennai are?I have not been around the city much. So, I am really not sure how women here are, when it comes to fashion. But generally, I think women in India are very fashionable and have their individual styles, most of them blending it with their traditional one.
What do you think about the city?My first trip to Chennai was in 1998, when I was in the eighth standard. It was a school trip and I don't have any memories about it. This is my second trip. One of my friends here told me that the traffic is crazy here but I found the traffic to be normal.
For a person who lives in Mumbai and spends most of the time in heavy traffic, Chennai traffic jams are just nothing. Come to Mumbai and you will know what real traffic is.How about the food here?Oh! I love south Indian food. I love dosas, uthappam and many more that I can't remember the names of.
Have you got film offers?Well, it is evident that many of the beauty contest winners have ended up becoming an actor in films. It's all about making the right choice. I am only 23. I have a different plan. I want to become an international model like Naomi Campbell, making it big in the Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks.
How is the response for Indian couture globally?Oh! People just go gaga over Indian haute-couture. Our designs have a unique blend of both Indian and Western and many like it. I have seen many international celebrities sporting sarees at many events outside India.
Where can we see Simran, 10 years from now?Obviously in a international fashion show as an international super model.Here...
